In the 1966 film A Man for All Seasons, Sir Thomas More confronts Richard Rich, an ambitious job applicant who ends up lying and betraying him. In this British historical drama, More tells Rich, “When a man takes an oath, he holds himself in his hands like water; There’s no need to wish for it back,” he warns.

This week, it appears Democrats have finally exhausted what’s left of themselves and their party. Democratic lawmakers and the media have long sought evidence that President Joe Biden was directly involved in or aware of the influence-spreading activities of his son Hunter and his brothers James and Frank. .

During the hearing, witnesses testified under oath about specific meetings with Joe Biden that discussed these foreign transactions and family business interests. Bank records showing millions of dollars in transfers to Hunter and various Biden family members were introduced.

The most chaotic moments from the House Oversight Hearing on the Biden family’s ‘influence peddling’

Faced with evidence that the president lied about having no knowledge or involvement in influence peddling, Democrats opened their mouths.

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) saw even dealing with the overwhelming amount of evidence contradicting the president as a problem for Democrats. But Goldman has long shown a willingness to go where the angels fear to tread.

In previous attacks, Goldman repeatedly fired friendly fire at the Bidens as he elicited damaging answers from witnesses. Goldman has a habit of bringing up the worst evidence that his colleagues have avoided. One hearing suffered a major stumble when dealing with a WhatsApp message in which Mr Hunter told a Chinese businessman that his father was sitting next to him and he would not be happy if he did not send him money.upon another timehe urged the IRS whistleblower to note that the emails whose records were read by Goldman actually directly contradicted the president’s denials.

In the latest gaffe, Goldman pressed Biden’s former partner Tony Bobulinski about a proposal he shared with Hunter and others to reserve 10% for the “big guys.” In other emails, Bobulinski was told to use such codes to avoid mentioning Joe Biden’s name. He was explicitly identified as the “big guy”.

Mr. Goldman sharply criticized Mr. Bobulinski, asking, “Did anyone ever reply to that email?”

Bobulinski replied, “Yes, they did it many times. Hunter himself did it.”

Goldman blurted out, “You’re right,” before angrily making up for time and cutting off the conversation.

Things were not so easy for the other members. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) mocked Bobulinski and challenged him, saying, “Easy, you name the crime. Did you see him steal something?” I self-destructed.

Bobulinski began talking about a series of possible criminal acts, but Ocasio-Cortez cut him off. Then she curiously pretended that he had not merely listed the crimes and barked, “Sir, what is that crime? Specifically?”

Bobulinski wasn’t the only one confused, pointing out, “You answered the question, I answered the question, RICO, you obviously don’t know…”

then Ocasio-Cortez cut him off again “Excuse me, sir. Excuse me, sir. RICO is not a crime. It’s a category. What is a crime?”

This appears to have cleared Trump of charges in Atlanta from everyone but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Extortion is a crime, and some of the crimes Bobulinski mentioned are generally part of such a conspiracy.

The exchange captured the frenzy of a hearing in which Democrats demanded evidence and ignored repeated submissions from witnesses and lawmakers.

Still, Ocasio-Cortez did shine a light on one point. Neither she nor her colleagues would acknowledge the obvious. Few now dispute that Hunter openly engaged in influence peddling, a form of corruption that governments have long battled around the world. It is also clear that Joe Biden knew that he was spreading his influence not only from his son but also from newspaper articles. He knew about corruption and encouraged it.

But Ocasio-Cortez wanted to ignore the millions of dollars she made in influence pitches to ask witnesses whether they saw the president steal things like wallets and hubcaps. .

Democrats have allowed their very identity to drip from their open fingers. They became the party that called for censorship, ballot washing, and court stuffing. Now, the government is allowing graphic influence propaganda after resisting all investigative efforts.

As someone who was born into a politically active Chicago family and has been a lifelong Democrat, I no longer recognize the Democratic Party of my youth. We once ran for something other than the next election or hating others.

By the end of the hearing, virtually every Democrat attacked the witnesses and denied any apparent corruption surrounding the Biden family. They had become Richard Riches’ party. Of course, this unified effort to deny the obvious left little time to look down at what was left of their hands. They held a moment when the party fought to protect one of the most massive and lucrative influence-spreading operations in history.

After that dastardly effort, they had little reason to look down, as they “didn’t have to hope to find out.” [themselves] Also. “
