Democrats across multiple states are advocating for laws that would restrict the operations of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an agency involved in addressing crimes committed by undocumented individuals.
This development follows an incident in Minneapolis where an ICE officer fatally shot a woman who allegedly used her vehicle to assault a police officer. Left-wing organizations have reportedly leveraged this event to rally protesters and promote their agendas, as noted by Brandi Shufuczynski, education and national security program director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
Take a look at his expression: A police chief responds to a mayor advocating for resistance against ICE:
According to a report from Fox News published on Thursday, states like New York, Oregon, New Jersey, California, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Tennessee are seeing Democratic leaders consider anti-ICE legislation.
Oregon Democrats are looking to propose a bill that would give residents the authority to sue federal officials for breaches of their Fourth Amendment rights related to unlawful searches and seizures.
In New Jersey, three bills have been forwarded to Governor Phil Murphy that would designate the state as a “sanctuary state” if enacted.
…
The Trump administration has expressed concerns, arguing that policies of non-cooperation in sanctuary regions can exacerbate risks for immigration enforcement.
In the meantime, progressive Democrats are reportedly poised to leverage the government funding deadline at the end of January to advocate for limitations on ICE, as per reports from Breitbart News on January 8.
Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) has stated intentions to propose legislation aimed at dismantling ICE, claiming it has become “entirely out of control.”
Notably, ICE recently apprehended a gang member who was an undocumented immigrant and had been convicted of kidnapping, torture, and murder in New Mexico.
Furthermore, the agency reported that numerous criminal aliens in sanctuary status in Minnesota had been convicted of serious crimes, including child sexual assault, prostitution, and homicide, according to Fox News’ Bill Melgin.
Breitbart News reported on January 5 that ICE had arrested several undocumented individuals in California, including registered sex offenders and drunk drivers.
Meanwhile, Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) has recently urged ICE to “round up” and deport all undocumented individuals who engage in criminal behavior.
