On Monday, Democrats from the House Oversight Committee quickly shared an image, reportedly a birthday message from President Trump to Jeffrey Epstein.
This release came shortly after Epstein’s estate assumed control over records summoned by the committee.
A July report by The Wall Street Journal mentioned that Trump supposedly sent an unkind letter to Epstein for his 50th birthday. Trump has since denied this and has taken legal action against the publication.
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif) accused Trump of attempting a cover-up. “I’ve pointed out this memo that Donald Trump claimed doesn’t exist, but once more, he’s misleading the American public and engaging in a White House cover-up,” Garcia stated after the image became public.
The released image depicts a conversation between Trump and Epstein, suggesting they shared “something in common.”
In the message, Trump apparently expressed best wishes in a somewhat cryptic manner. It concludes with, “My friends are wonderful. Happy birthday, and every day may reveal another great secret.”
Democrats emphasize the significance of this note. “We received a Trump birthday note that he denied ever sending. Trump talks about the ‘great secret’ they shared. What’s he hiding? We’ll release more.”
The White House and its supporters have questioned the authenticity of the letter, claiming the signature doesn’t match Trump’s.
“It’s time for @newscorp to settle this. That signature isn’t his. Absurd!” tweeted White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budwich.
Garcia dismissed the effort to undermine the image, asserting it reflects broader attempts by the White House to distance itself from unsavory figures while denying justice to victims abused by those in power. “This is not a hoax. You are deceiving the American public and involved in a cover-up. The Oversight Committee will now review today’s documents,” he insisted.
He added, “We’re committed to justice for survivors, irrespective of anyone’s influence or wealth.”
Trump has faced mounting scrutiny regarding the Epstein affair, urging his allies in Congress to disclose more information related to the late financier and convicted sex offender.
He has maintained that credible evidence from the Justice Department should be released, often suggesting that some Republicans are aligning with Democrats by focusing on Epstein.
Epstein, who was accused of trafficking underage girls, moved in elite circles, associating with figures like Trump, former President Clinton, and British Prince Andrew. His associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted of sex trafficking and had communicated with the Department of Justice in July.
Maxwell, who is seeking leniency, stated she doesn’t recall Trump sending a birthday message or any card during her interview with the DOJ.
