Democrats Want to ‘Beat Trump in the Courtroom,’ Not Ballot Box

Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Thursday denounced the “guilty” verdict against former President Donald Trump, saying Democrats want to defeat him in court, not at the polls.

“The Democrats’ strategy is to defeat President Trump in the courts rather than at the ballot box. This will backfire in November. Worse, it is deeply undemocratic,” the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy said on X.

“America deserves a president who can win at the ballot box without undermining the separation of powers of government or weaponizing the courts. You can’t save our democracy by destroying it first,” he continued. “Democrats are so afraid they’ll lose at the ballot box that they’re attacking President Trump in court instead.”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ended his post by announcing that he will run as an independent against both former President Trump and President Joe Biden this November.

Despite opposing Trump in the election, RFK Jr.’s comments stand in stark contrast to several anti-Trump activists who celebrated Thursday’s guilty verdict.

“Today’s convictions are entirely just and no one is above the law. We look forward to further convictions as the federal trial proceeds. Trump is now a felon,” said former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger.

The big question now is whether a conviction will be enough to tip the tide from former President Trump to Biden ahead of the election on November 5. While accurate polls on the matter will take at least a week, Karl Rove, a mainstream Republican who has previously criticized Trump, said on Fox News this week that a conviction could cost Trump important swing votes in key states such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

“If he is convicted, we should not underestimate the problem.” Said Karl Rove.

“Think about that: 11% are less likely to vote for him in Michigan, where Donald Trump is up half a percentage point in the RealClearPolitics average, in Pennsylvania, where he’s up 2%, in Wisconsin, where he’s up three-tenths of a percent,” Rove continued. “So in the close races that we’re likely to face, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11% of voters are less likely to vote for you, that’s a problem.”
