CNN political commentator Scott Jennings said on “The Situation Room” Wednesday that the attacks on former President Donald Trump's visit to Arlington National Cemetery were “political” and “nonsense.”
“If what NPR is reporting is true that Trump campaign staffers shoved and verbally abused cemetery staff, how concerned are you about that?” guest host Alex Marquardt asked.
Jennings said, “I don't know if that's true. I wasn't there and the Trump campaign says that's not true. I think we'll hear more in the future. Honestly, the way Biden and Harris have treated, ignored and belittled these families after one of the most disastrous decisions ever made in the White House is, to me, the most despicable part of this. And there are a lot of opinions on this, everyone's commenting. But all I really care about is the opinions of the families in question. And as J.D. Vance reported, they said, “We have approved President Trump's official videographer and cameraman to be in attendance. We will cherish this memory forever. We are deeply grateful to the President for taking the time to honor our children and for being with us in our grief.” I mean, they released a lengthy statement saying they couldn't have been happier to have Donald Trump in Arlington with them. And he's given them more than a day of his time. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris can't even do that.”
“Scott, if you didn't get approval from the cemetery, shouldn't you have? And do you think this video should be released now?” Marquardt asked.
Jennings said, “Listen, you know what I think? Only people who are very cowardly about this would try to turn something positive, Donald Trump spending time with Gold Star families, into a political, trash attack. That's my take. All that matters are the Gold Star families. They invited Trump, Trump went, and they're happy he was there. If that's not good enough for the Democrats, I don't know what to say.”
