Dems Attack Justice System Too, and That Harms Democracy, Other Dems Should Call It Out

On Tuesday’s episode of NewsNation’s “Dan Abrams Live,” Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.) said that while Republicans are doing more, many Democrats are also “attacking the U.S. justice system, claiming it’s corrupt, immoral and wrong. The reality is that as a result, the American people are losing faith in the justice system, which is leading to the erosion of our democracy.” Garamendi also said Democrats should condemn other Democrats who attack the justice system.

“What do you think of my criticism? Let me start with the Democrats. When an allegation is made, they immediately blame it on race or politics or whatever,” host Dan Abrams said.

Garamendi responded: “Well, that’s like the household I grew up in. We were a family of seven, and whenever someone did something wrong, we always tried to blame someone else and shield ourselves from the attack. The reality is that there is substance to the accusations, and that substance must be resolved through traditional due legal procedures. Investigators, yes, found some problems in each of these cases. And in each of these cases, they have been resolved through due legal procedures. The problem comes when many Democrats, and especially Republicans, since Donald Trump came onto the national stage, attack the U.S. justice system, claiming that it is corrupt, immoral and wrong. The reality is that the result of all of that is that the American people have lost faith in the justice system, which leads to an opportunity for our democracy to fail.”

Abrams then said, “I completely agree with you, but as I looked further into this, I saw that all of the Democrats were blaming the Department of Justice, and I felt that there was some accountability for Democrats to say to other Democrats, don’t do that, don’t blame the Department of Justice for your problems.”

Garamendi responded, “Well, you’re right. That’s just what I thought. I’m sure there are others who would say the same. The fact is, there is substance to the charges, otherwise there wouldn’t be charges. If you look at Mar-a-Lago and the classified documents issue, there was substance. … But the whole issue here is that on the Democrats and Republicans, especially on the Republican side, because of the national stage they have, the issues on the Democratic side, with the exception of Hunter Biden, are all local, they don’t have a national stage. And yet they’re important. But what’s happening on the national stage is a loss of faith in the justice system.”
