Dems ‘Can’t Keep Asserting That Things Are Great in the Economy’, That’s Not True

In an interview with NPR published Tuesday, former President Bill Clinton said Democrats “cannot continue to claim that economic conditions are great.” And while there are some strong aspects of the economy, “we do have cost of living challenges, and this is not unique to the United States, but when you're in the middle of the country, it's pretty difficult.” You work hard, you have two or three kids, and you have to watch every penny you earn. And second, the economic benefits of the current economic recovery are widely shared in stagnant regions. However, it will take time for people across the country to realize the benefits. ”

Mr. Clinton said: [relevant remarks begin around 2:25] “There are two things I want to say: We can't keep claiming that the economic situation is great. In a way, they are great. But first of all, we have a cost of living problem. This isn't unique to the United States, but you're out in the middle of the country, working hard, and you have two or three kids, so it's pretty difficult to make the money you earn. All must be monitored. And second, the economic benefits of the current economic recovery are widely shared in stagnant regions, but are being felt by people across the country. It takes time. Humans are not the only driving force in the economy. [are] There are many identity conflicts going on in our society and around the world right now, and these culture war themes remain very influential. And we Democrats have to learn to talk to people. ”

Clinton also said there has been too much focus on identity.
