On Wednesday's CNN International's “Amanpool,” Sen. Seth Moulton (D-MA) said Democrats should “plan to reform the government itself, and frankly, we didn't have that. We also need a plan to deal with immigration. This is another issue that has been denied for too long.”
“I think I'm out there,” Moulton said. [are] Two things Democrats need to do, and I'm certainly doing what I can. One is standing up loud to Trump. And I wasn't afraid to call him about what needed to happen to him, what the administration was wrong. But the second thing is that we really need to look at ourselves in the mirror as Democrats and ask questions. What about losing contact with the majority of Americans? We were wiped out by what was supposed to have been the easiest election in our history. We never had to run to a criminal who was previously charged, a convicted felon. This should have been very easy for Democrats, but we still lost all the way through. So we need to do some – do some serious reforms to our own party. And I wrote about how we became a preacher party. We talk to people. If you don't agree with us, you say you're not only wrong, but you're a bad person. We actually lift the voices of Americans, meet them where they are, bring them in and expand our tents to bring about different perspectives rather than being seen in some liberal orthodoxy. ”
He added: “We need a plan to actually fix some of the things Republicans correctly identify as problems. It's just that their solutions are useless. Is government reform something we should do? Absolutely. I think it's difficult to find Americans who believe the federal government is efficient. The problem is, what Elon Musk is doing is not making the government more efficient, and he doesn't have that. But Democrats have to plan accordingly. We shouldn't just sit down and see Republicans ruin everything. We should have a plan to reform ourselves, and frankly, we didn't have it. We also need a plan to deal with immigration. This is another issue that we've denied for too long. So we need to put in some serious reform efforts at the same time as we stand up to Trump.”
