Dems Need to Say ‘Everything Is on the Table, Nothing Is Safe’ for Cutting Regulations, But Don’t

In the online “overtime” segment of HBO's “real-time” broadcast on Friday, former Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel argued that Democrats are too focused on passing the rules, “making it impossible for us to function as a city or as a nation,” and Democrats should look at government regulations and say “everything is not safe.” But that's not the case.

Washington Post Columnist and CNN host Fareed Zakaria said that people's image of Democrats is “a lot of taxes, a lot of regulations, but nothing is done.”

And “Democrats have it and have to realize that the answer to everything is taxes, not more regulations. People are tired of it and they feel it's not working.”

Emmanuel said, “Democrats – who sees them as the best graduate growth in the country. And we changed high schools. The point is the outcome. And the party is too focused on what the rules are. And I agree with you about this, we made it impossible to function as a city or as a nation, and so was – here, obviously, in Los Angeles, fire and natural disasters were needed to make you realize that it's not that important. In Pennsylvania, the bridge collapsed. Suddenly, environmental rules aren't important, and we have to build bridges, that's much more important.”

He continued, “And I think Democrats should look at it — and they said we'll be honest as we did with reforming the government in 1994. … And that won't happen. And that's a fair criticism.”
