Dems Who Voted to Rebuke Harris on Border Were Trying to Save Their Seats, Didn’t Really Mean It

Rep. Sean Kasten (D-Ill.) said on Thursday’s episode of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power” that Democrats who voted to condemn Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ border enforcement believe “this helps us keep our seats and it’s not really an issue” because the bill is nonbinding and won’t be taken up in the Senate.

Kasten said:[T]Some of the senators in very weak districts are thinking a lot about their own reelection. If you ask them individually, they will tell you that this bill will never be taken up by the Senate and is not binding at all. And their judgment, and I don’t want to tell them what they think, was that this bill will help me keep my seat and it’s not very important. What’s even more sad for people like me is that we shouldn’t have voted this week. No Republican was talking about this until they realized that we have a strong candidate for president and we can’t pass a budget bill. So, let’s just say, Kamala Harris, I’m not happy, let’s do something. Fine, but a bill with no substance. Now let’s get to the actual work.
