Democrats are worried about New York.
Joe Biden won New York state by 23 points in 2020, but recent polls have shown Trump gaining momentum.
President Joe Biden has a new problem: a tight election race in heavily Democratic New York.
Elected officials, labor leaders and political consultants are panicking over polls showing a steady decline in Biden’s support in a state he won by 23 points four years ago. Democrats are now warning that a possible Trump return to the White House poses an existential threat to democracy and urging Biden to think seriously about New York, according to interviews with 10 Democratic officials, consultants and political leaders.
Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, a Democrat, told Politico that he believes New York is “now a battleground state.”
A leading Manhattan Democrat warned Wednesday that President Biden’s plummeting approval rating in heavily Democratic New York signals the state will be a “battleground” in the 2024 election.
“We’re still operating as if this is a one-party state, and that’s been the case for almost 20, 25 years,” Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, a Democrat, told Politico.
“I truly believe we’re a battleground state right now.”
