Denny's joins Waffle House in adding egg surcharge

According to a company statement, Denny is joining Waffle House to add an extra charge for eggs.

“Denny's is committed to providing guests with delicious meals they like at the value they expect. Planning vendors in advance on egg-like items and impact market volatility on costs and menu pricing. We will do our best to minimize this,” the statement reads.

“However, due to the national lack of eggs and increased egg costs, some of our restaurant locations will need to temporarily add an additional fee to every meal that lays eggs.”

Nexstar previously reported that an extra charge for eggs at Waffle House restaurants began earlier this month. The outlet has taken notes from the restaurant chain. The memo said a temporary extra per 50 cents fee will begin on February 3rd for all menus.

Denny's actions on egg surcharges were explained by market-by-market and restaurant-by-store due to the regional impact of egg shortages.

The bird flu outbreak has seen a surge in egg prices in recent weeks. In most cases, if the virus turns out to be on the farm, you need to kill all the birds and help stop the spread. A single infectious disease could lead to a dramatic reduction in supply, as farms can count millions of birds.

“We understand our guests' desire for value. We will continue to look for ways to offer options to our menu, such as a $2 $4 $6 $8 value menu.
