Search for Armed Suspect in California

Authorities in California are on the hunt for a man they consider armed and dangerous, following his alleged involvement in a murder and multiple shootings. Derek Spencer, 44, is wanted for several serious charges that include pointing a firearm at individuals in Placer County on Sunday.

Initially, Spencer was sought after reports of him aiming a gun at people earlier that day. During the search, deputies located him in the Iowa Hill area, but he managed to evade capture by ramming a patrol vehicle before fleeing, which led to a full-scale manhunt.

Things escalated when Spencer reportedly fired shots at law enforcement personnel and helicopters that were assisting in the search. Thankfully, no officers sustained injuries during these incidents. Residents in the Iowa Hill vicinity have been advised to lock their doors and stay indoors for safety.

As of Sunday evening, the sheriff’s office indicated that the search was ongoing but quite challenging due to the area’s vast size, densely wooded sections, and steep terrain.

While continuing the search, deputies discovered a murder victim believed to be killed by Spencer. As tactical teams approached a home he had been in, they found an adult woman shot dead inside. Investigators think Spencer may have murdered her before retreating into the nearby forest.

The sheriff’s department is now receiving assistance from various law enforcement agencies to find Spencer. They emphasized that efforts will persist throughout the night, stressing that they will not ease their pursuit of this dangerous suspect.

Spencer is described as a bald man with a goatee. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the search intensifies.
