Homestead, Florida. – Almost every federal, state and county law enforcement in Florida took part in a press conference Wednesday when Gov. R. R. was called at Homestead Airways Reserve Base near Miami.
The event highlighted cooperation between the DeSantis administration and the Department of Homeland Security as President Donald Trump took office. While praising the current historic low and illegal border crossing, DeSantis said the Trump administration needs a nation to compensate for the federal government's efforts to deport many illegal aliens around the country.
“We are the only state in the country where every county has done this.”
DeSantis said all sheriffs in 67 counties in the state have signed an agreement with US immigration and customs enforcement agencies to actively participate in joint ventures to find and arrest illegal aliens.
“Today, I am proud that all 67 Florida Sheriffs have … each of these sheriffs have implemented this 287(g) task force model agreement with the Department of Homeland Security. We are the only state in the country where every county has done this,” he explained.
Desantis revealed that the contracts don't just allow ice agents to access prisons and prisons. “Obviously you had to do that. …This is a task force model that leads to street-level executive operations.”
Prior to the event, statewide Florida agencies were already carrying out a joint operation with ICE.
To highlight his point, Desantis had a presentation representative for the following institutions:
- Florida Highway Patrol
- Florida Department of Law Enforcement
- Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee
- US Border Patrol
- US Customs Border Protection Air and Marine Operations
- Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office
- Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office
- Lee County Sheriff's Office
- Brevard County Sheriff's Office
When asked by Blaze Media whether Desantis has set up a daily quota for illegal foreigners arrested by state agencies to reach, he said, “We see what the Fed has for targets, but yes, our goal is to meet and exceed that, 100%.”
DeSantis added that, given its proximity to Guantanamo Bay in Florida, Florida has been asked to send illegal aliens arrested there to the facility and provide staff members to the site.
“I think it's really smart to use Gitmo strategically. If there are countries that don't accept citizens, you can't detain them indefinitely on the mainland, and you can't go back to your community,” Desantis says. “We're way ahead of the Florida curve.”
