The AFP report told a press conference after Sanchez met with XI that trade tensions should not hinder cooperation between the European Union and China.
Spain purchases around 45 billion euros ($49.1 billion) of goods each year from China, its fourth largest trading partner, but sells around 7.4 billion euros worth.
