Dallas ICE Facility Shooting Claims Life of Detained Immigrant
Officials in Dallas have confirmed the identity of one of the victims from Wednesday’s shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. The victim, Nolan Guzman Fuentes, a 37-year-old detainee from El Salvador, was killed during a sniper attack at the ICE Dallas Field Office while in custody.
Guzman had been apprehended by local law enforcement before ICE took over his custody. His criminal history includes an arrest dating back to February 19, 2012, in Florida for multiple charges, including improper use of firearms and criminal mischief—all charges except one were eventually dropped.
He was arrested again on February 14, 2020, in Arlington, Texas, for driving under the influence, just days before ICE could formally detain him.
Increased Security Measures Anticipated Following Dallas ICE Shooting
On August 25, Guzman faced additional allegations of aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon. Following this arrest, ICE secured him from the Dallas County Jail. However, on September 10, those aggravated assault charges were dismissed.
The violent incident unfolded on September 24, when Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Dallas arrested Guzman. Upon his arrival at the facility, an active shooter, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Yahn, opened fire, presumably targeting immigration officers to create chaos.
Yahn’s intentions seemed to revolve around instilling fear by attacking federal agents, which resulted in Guzman’s death.
Authorities noted that two others were seriously injured during the shooting, but ICE staff members fortunately escaped without harm.
