Detransitioner discusses her questions for James Talarico at the CNN town hall

In a recent interview, Soren Aldaco, a 23-year-old detransitioner, shared her experience about attempting to attend a CNN town hall featuring Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico. Aldaco mentioned that she reached out to event organizers, but they only responded the night before, denying her entry.

During her conversation on “The Katie Miller Podcast,” Aldaco expressed her disappointment and emphasized the importance of having a genuine discussion with Talarico. She noted, “I wanted to talk to him about this issue face-to-face, especially during the town hall where he challenged constituents. But they said I couldn’t participate.” This remark reflected her belief that a direct conversation would be more impactful.

The town hall, co-hosted by CNN and Jubilee Media on October 14, included audience questions and inquiries from moderator Erin Burnett.

In terms of Talarico’s stance on gender transition policies, Aldaco feels he isn’t fully grasping the consequences of his past statements. She highlighted his admission of being misinformed about gender categorization, saying, “He mentioned there are six genders and that he was wrong, but what are the real effects of that? I tried reaching out multiple times about bills that could benefit those still identifying as trans, but he wouldn’t engage.”

Aldaco also claimed that the Texas Supreme Court recently ruled in her favor, stating that her case against a therapist wasn’t barred by the statute of limitations, which is a win for her ongoing concerns.

Meanwhile, questions were raised during the town hall regarding Talarico’s past references to God. One participant asked him about his views on faith, linking some of his statements to doubts about his authenticity among Christian voters. Talarico affirmed his belief in the Bible as the ultimate truth.

Moving past the controversy, Talarico explained that his previous remarks were intended to provoke discussion, likening his approach to that of fellow commentator Charlie Kirk. He further illustrated that some of his statements were a reaction to increasing Republican extremism, arguing he didn’t set out to focus on these issues when entering politics.

In sum, Aldaco’s case and Talarico’s evolving narrative highlight a complex interplay of personal experiences, political positions, and community concerns surrounding gender and identity discussions within public forums.
