Detroit Lions Supporter Sues DK Metcalf and Others for $100 Million Over Defamation

Detroit Lions Fan Files Defamation Lawsuit

Ryan Kennedy, a fan of the Detroit Lions, has initiated a $100 million defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson. This follows an incident last December involving Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was suspended for two games due to alleged “conduct detrimental to the NFL” after a confrontation with Kennedy.

During the incident, Metcalf accused Kennedy of using a racial slur, a claim that Kennedy strongly denies. According to reports, Kennedy and Sharpe are suing Johnson’s media company over negative comments made on the podcast Nightcap. The lawsuit also names Metcalf and others.

According to Kennedy’s attorney, John Marko, the lawsuit alleges that Johnson made false claims, asserting that Kennedy referred to Metcalf with a racial slur and used derogatory language toward Metcalf’s mother. Kennedy denies these allegations, stating that there’s no supporting audio or video evidence.

Marko went on to explain that these accusations have significantly harmed Kennedy’s reputation and his mortgage business. He noted that major outlets such as ESPN and USA Today reported on the accusations, leading to millions of views and branding Kennedy as a racist. This has resulted in him receiving threats, hate mail, and serious damage to his business.

After the incident at Ford Field, Kennedy and his lawyer, Sean Head, emphasized the severe impact of the false claims. Head mentioned that Kennedy and his family faced threats and harassment as a result. He stated that they had reached out to Metcalf’s representatives to rectify the situation but had not yet received a reply, suggesting Metcalf has the opportunity to clarify the events.
