Federal prosecutors have convicted a New York City man of murdering and dismembering a woman to collect her life insurance money.
A federal jury on Monday sentenced Corey Martin, 36, of Rosedale, Queens, to murder and identity theft after 26-year-old Brandi Odom was strangled in her bedroom in 2018. He was found guilty of a crime.

U.S. prosecutors say Martin strangled Odom in his bedroom in April 2018 before going to a Long Island mall with Anderson to buy cleaning supplies. He also searched on his website for Home Depot for a “Dewalt 12 amp corded reciprocating saw” with a “powerful 12 amp motor designed for heavy duty applications.” That night, he searched his YouTube for “how to insert a reciprocating saw blade” and “how to use a reciprocating saw.”
Anderson testified that Martin covered all sides of the bathroom with heavy-duty black trash bags and then used an electric saw to dismember Odom’s body in the bathtub.
A few days later, Martin disposed of Odom’s body parts at Canarsie Park, a 132-acre park in Brooklyn. On April 10, people searched for online news such as “Dismembered body found in Brooklyn’s Canarsie Park, search expands,” and the next day, they searched for “Exclusive interview with mother of baby girl found in park.”
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Anderson then made repeated attempts to claim benefits under Odom’s life insurance policy at Martin’s direction, but were unsuccessful.
