As I woke up this Saturday morning, it was the last Saturday of football in months. No NFL, no college, no football.
Well, at least not “real” soccer. Even if spring league is being held this season, we don't even know what day of the week the games will be played. However, playing on Saturday does not count.
And as the number of games decreases, the fantasy window becomes shorter and shorter. In fact, next week is the last week without a single game format until September. have fun.
Of course, the best part is earning coins. But a shorter slate means fewer options, and fewer options means fewer opportunities to “make your roster unique.” He only has 4 games and he doesn't feature all 4 games in the main contest on either of his main DFS sites. Because… well, we don't know. It doesn't even make sense to us.
Nevertheless, we're tracking a 4-game schedule, and you can find some smaller contests on FanDuel, but not on DraftKings. So I go to FanDuel.
Last week we expanded the roster a bit, but we're basically stacking the Rams vs. Lions game and expecting a shootout. That didn't happen, but it didn't diminish our affinity for the Lions. We think they might have a boat race with the Buccaneers, and we'd like to get some exposure to a possible loss.
The problem is we can't afford to have too many Lions on the same roster. So we're going to fit as many players as we can, but we're going to fit around Christian McCaffrey, who isn't cheap ($10,000).
If you stack the Lions, you'll have to start with Jared Goff ($7,600) and want to pair him with his favorite target, Amon-Ra St. Brown ($9,200). On the other side will be Mike Evans ($7,600).
All of these players underperformed last week (or the last time they played for CMC). That's one of the reasons we like them. A good player never underperforms. So we want them to have a chance to bounce back. I also hope other of his DFS players will be reluctant to use them and usage will drop a bit.
But make no mistake, all of these players will be popular players. But in the short term, they need to find some cheaper options to fill out the roster, so they'll look for uniqueness there.
The Ravens' backfield is in shambles, with Dalvin Cook added to the 53-man roster. At $4,500, I'd go for that cheap option hoping for a cheap touchdown.
Choose the cheapest defense. Ah, Packers vs. 49ers. I don't care. Due to inclement weather and Lamar Jackson expected to continue to struggle in the postseason, I'm going with the next cheapest Texans ($3,400).
I want a tight end that can at least play, so I select Luke Musgrave ($5,100). That leaves plenty of room to flex another Lion, David Montgomery ($7,000), and plenty of room for Houston's deep WR option, Xavier Hutchinson ($4,800). , there is some upside due to Noah Brown being injured.
So we think we have a solid Lions stack and enough other legitimate options to fill out the roster that we can enter the divisional round with dollar signs in our eyes.
“Do’s” and “Don’ts” by department
Top picks to consider for this weekend's FanDuel and DraftKings contests:
Josh Allen QB, Bills vs. Chiefs (FD $9,400/DK $8,000)
If you want to avoid cheaper QB options, you can't go wrong with Allen. He averages about 25 fantasy points per game, which is more than any other QB option. And he has performed well in past games against the Chiefs, including earlier this season.
Baker Mayfield QB, Buccaneers, Lions (FD $7,300/DK $6,000)
Sure, the Lions are a great opponent on paper, but it would be an incredibly hostile environment for an overachieving Bucks team. I want a better discount. In Mayfield's price range, I prefer Jordan Love or CJ Stroud.
Do you want to bet on the NFL?
Aaron Jones RB, Packers, 49ers (FD $7,400/DK $6,700)
As great as they were last week, the 49ers will have more resistance than the middling Cowboys in the wild card round. It's easier to reach San Francisco's defense through the air.
Gus Edwards RB, Ravens vs. Texans (FD $6,900/DK N/A)
It's not a fun option at all because if he doesn't score, it's a wasted option. But so are the chances for a TD in conditions that are expected to be breezy and slightly windy. It's also a good fade-up option for those concerned about newly acquired Dalvin Cook's usage rate.
Mike Evans WR, Buccaneers, Lions (FD $7,600/DK $7,200)
He had a crappy game last week, and he doesn't usually have crappy games in quick succession. He regularly posts monster numbers without Mayfield having to have big fantasy days.
