DHS addresses hateful speech after Charlie Kirk murder and ICE violence

Department of Homeland Security Alerts on Political Rhetoric

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a warning regarding dangerous political rhetoric related to immigration enforcement, especially following the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. This rhetoric is seen as inciting violence against law enforcement officials.

“This hostile language contributes to political violence in our country and has led to an alarming increase in assaults on our dedicated ICE officers—over 1,000%,” the department stated.

They pointed out the need for the media and left-wing groups to tone down their rhetoric, particularly toward President Trump and DHS law enforcement following acts of political violence and attacks against ICE agents.

McLaughlin voiced concerns about how such “demonizations” are spreading violence across the nation.

Noem on Assaults Against ICE Agents

Noem remarked that ICE agents are experiencing a tenfold rise in assaults. “We have to lower the temperature before anyone else gets killed,” she emphasized.

In a specific incident highlighted by DHS, there were attempts to apprehend a suspected migrant who was injured by police during the events surrounding Kirk’s murder in Utah.

The DHS urged libraries of media outlets, left-leaning organizations, and sanctuary city politicians to halt actions against law enforcement.

In the department’s examples of inflammatory political comments, they included remarks from Texas MP Jasmine Crockett. She compared immigration enforcement officers to slave patrols, remarking on historical implications.

Additionally, the Minnesota governor drew attention for referring to ICE as the “modern Gestapo” during his speech at the University of Minnesota. Such comments have echoed sentiments from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, who has suggested that the U.S. is approaching a state reminiscent of Nazi Germany.

Concerns voiced by Union Leaders

Further, the DHS condemned comments from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who made a questionable comparison regarding masked groups and their ties to neonazism.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries faced criticism, especially for his statements about opposing Trump’s agenda “on the streets,” which implies an environment of violence.

Representative John Larson was also noted for comparing the actions of ICE to those of the SS and Gestapo, prompting a reminder that such references are inappropriate in the current context of the U.S.

The DHS’s report also documented various instances of violence aimed at ICE officials, including a notable incident where armed individuals targeted Texas facilities earlier this year.

Another serious situation occurred when gunfire was exchanged at the McAllen Border Patrol Annex, leading to injuries but ultimately, the suspect was neutralized.

On August 29, a woman in Maine allegedly attempted to run over a federal agent with her vehicle during an arrest.

The department cataloged multiple incidents where suspects have harmed officers or destroyed property, indicating a worrying trend in the escalation of violence against law enforcement.
