DHS Carries Out First Flight for 64 Migrants Choosing to Self-Deport

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) organized its first charter flight, transporting 64 immigrants voluntarily returning to Honduras and Colombia from Texas.

This flight is a response to initiatives from the previous Trump administration, which controversially offered $1,000 to immigrants as part of a self-deportation project.

DHS clarified that “This was a voluntary charter flight, not an ICE enforcement operation.” In their announcement, they explained that all participants received similar benefits as those who self-report via the CBP Home App, including travel assistance and funds, as well as the potential to one day return to the U.S. legally.

Of the immigrants, 38 were sent back to Honduras, while 26 went to Colombia. Both nations are providing support and resources for the returning migrants.

“Today, DHS has completed a project homecoming charter flight for 64 individuals who voluntarily chose to return to their hometowns in Honduras and Colombia,” stated Chief Christinom. He emphasized that those in the U.S. illegally have the option to use the CBP Home App for a safe departure and financial aid.

In discussing the project, the president remarked:

“As we aim to collaborate with them in the future, with some effort, if they are the right kind of individuals for our country, then good people might have a chance to return.” He noted that this approach offers a pathway back to the U.S.
