Anna “Delvey” Sorokin, the German-Russian who pretended to be a wealthy heiress and a socialite in New York City, may soon face deportation, according to recent reports.
A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expressed frustration, stating, “She has made a mockery of the U.S. court system and immigration laws for years.” Sorokin was released wearing an ankle monitor, and her appeal for release is currently under review.
Speculation about her potential deportation began in 2022, following her early release from prison after serving time for grand larceny and theft of services. After overstaying her tourist visa, she was briefly held in ICE custody but remains in New York, still monitored.
“We look forward to bringing her home soon,” the DHS representative added.
In 2022, Sorokin remarked, “I’ve spent most of my adult life in New York, and many of my friends and support systems are based in the United States. With so many violent criminals being released from ICE every day, I see no reason why I should be permanently deported.”
Despite her legal troubles, Sorokin has maintained a public profile. She gained notoriety partly due to the Netflix series “The Invention of Anna,” for which she reportedly received $320,000. She even participated in “Dancing with the Stars.” Currently, she continues to use her alias, has over a million followers on Instagram, and shares updates, including a recent video about how to wear tights with an ankle monitor.
Additionally, she has been seen frequently posting selfies with George Santos, a former New York state congressman who was ousted due to his own scandals. Santos has not commented on their interactions.
Originally, Sorokin claimed to be the heiress of a wealthy German family, asserting that she would inherit a fortune of $67 million. However, prosecutors revealed that she funded her extravagant lifestyle by deceiving banks and friends, ultimately failing to repay her debts.
