DHS Responds to Halloween Display in Houston
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) urged “sanctuary politicians” to ease their rhetoric against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after a disturbing Halloween display in Houston depicted the hanging of a figure representing ICE personnel.
This unsettling display was set up in Houston’s predominantly Hispanic 2nd Ward. Footage of it shows two mannequins dressed in red hats, black shirts, khaki pants, and masks, suspended from ropes on a wooden gallows, with a Mexican flag draped nearby.
According to DHS, “A doll of an ICE officer was found hanging from a homemade gallows, with zip ties in its pocket. The scene portrayed a mock execution site, surrounded by coffins and barbed wire.” They stressed the seriousness of the matter, especially in light of recent attacks on federal law enforcement officers.
DHS emphasized the concerning rise in assaults on police officers, stating that they have seen over a thousand percent increase in attacks against them. This situation has led to increased threats online, including against the families of these officers.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned not only the display but also the threats received by ICE agents’ families. One agent’s spouse received a message expressing intentions of “retribution.” Another reported a call suggesting their family could face deportation and comparing their situation to the fate of Nazis after World War II.
McLaughlin remarked, “These threats against our brave ICE law enforcement officers and their families are disgusting. Officers risk their lives daily to apprehend dangerous criminals, and such comparisons to the Nazi regime carry real consequences.”
She concluded by urging for the violence and dehumanization of law enforcement officials enforcing the law to come to an end, highlighting their humanity as they aspire to safeguard their communities.
