DHS Inspector General Probing into Secret Service After Trump Nearly Assassinated

The Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general is investigating the Secret Service after the agency failed to prevent an attempted assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, according to a notice posted on its website.

of News The Office of the Inspector General said it is evaluating the Secret Service’s processes for security for former President Trump’s July 13, 2024 election event.

This notice was not prominently posted on the website, Listed The word “New” will appear next to “Active Projects.”

There has been no official announcement about an investigation or information about when it began. President Joe Biden has also ordered a review of security at the rallies.

Congress is also investigating security failings in the incident in which a suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, allegedly climbed to the roof of a building being used as a surveillance post by local police working with the Secret Service and fired eight shots at Trump as he spoke on stage 135 metres away.

One bullet pierced the former president’s ear before he ducked for cover and was shielded by Secret Service agents before being escorted off the stage.

Before leaving, Trump stopped, pumped his fist, and, with blood coming from his ears, yelled “Fight! Fight! Fight!” It was an iconic moment of bravery and defiance.

While Crooks was reportedly shot dead by a Secret Service counter-sniper after the shots were fired, many questions remain about how he managed to get onto the roof after being spotted by local police, called into the Secret Service’s command center as a suspicious person, and then confronted by local police officers before firing at Trump.

Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle has said “I take responsibility” but has refused to resign despite calls from Republicans for her to do so.
