DHS reacts to Walz’s description of ICE agents as ‘modern-day Gestapo’: ‘disgusting’

DHS on Walz labeling ICE agents 'modern-day Gestapo': 'Sickening'

DHS Criticizes Minnesota Governor for Comments on ICE

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has taken issue with Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz’s recent remarks.

DHS Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin expressed her frustration in a statement, stating she was “fed up” with comparisons made between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and the Gestapo.

“I’m tired of the comments from Governor Waltz comparing ICE agents to the Gestapo,” McLaughlin stated. She added that such rhetoric has resulted in a significant 413% increase in attacks against ICE personnel.

McLaughlin continued, “While politicians like Waltz aim to protect illegal immigrants, our ICE officers remain dedicated to apprehending dangerous individuals—killers, traffickers, and pedophiles—who have entered the country due to previous administrations’ border policies.”

Waltz had criticized the Trump administration’s deportation actions during a recent speech at the University of Minnesota Law School, calling attention to the rapid tracking of immigrants and Palestinian activists on college campuses.

“Donald Trump’s modern Gestapo is scooping people up on the streets,” remarked Waltz, who is a candidate for the 2024 Democratic vice presidency.

He elaborated, saying, “They were in unmarked vans, wearing masks, taken to foreign torture dungeons, with no chance to prepare a defense or say goodbye to their loved ones, grabbed by masked agents and disappeared.”

Numerous videos have emerged, allegedly showing officers involved in ambush arrests since the Trump administration began.

“This is what the collapse of the rule of law looks like in real time,” Waltz said. “It reflects the founders’ fears of tyrants, scapegoats, and the power to persecute enemies.”
