DHS Clarifies Deportation Incident Involving Preschool Teacher
Democratic lawmakers recently attempted to criticize a deportation action, but the Department of Homeland Security (D.H.S.) responded, stating that their claims were “deliberately misrepresenting” the situation.
Representative Mike Quigley, a Democrat from Illinois, shared a video on Wednesday showing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents removing a woman from a kindergarten facility.
Quigley claimed, “ICE law enforcement did not target the daycare center; they only visited this location because an undocumented female had taken refuge inside.” He further asserted that officers took a kindergarten teacher in his district without a warrant while children were present.
Later that day, D.H.S. issued a statement that challenged Quigley’s narrative, saying, “Congressman, you are intentionally misrepresenting the facts. ICE law enforcement did not target the daycare center; they simply visited this location because an undocumented female had taken refuge inside.”
The agency revealed that officers were attempting to conduct a “targeted traffic stop” due to the woman being an illegal immigrant from Colombia. The situation escalated when the vehicle’s driver refused to stop, prompting a chase.
The couple ultimately abandoned their car at a shopping mall and entered the daycare. The D.H.S. added, “They ran into the nursery and attempted to barricade themselves inside, recklessly endangering the children.” The illegal alien was arrested at the entrance to the school and had lied about her identity during the process.
D.H.S. stated that they would provide updates as new facts emerged, including details about the criminal activities linked to the male perpetrator.
In response to D.H.S.’s remarks, Quigley replied succinctly, “They’re lying.”
Additionally, a local news outlet confirmed that a childcare worker from Chicago’s Lite de Sol Spanish Intensive Early Learning Center was indeed detained. The school indicated that the officers did not present a warrant, noting that they had been following the woman as she was going to work.
