McLaughlin Responds to Governor’s Comments on ICE
Homeland Security Advisor Tricia McLaughlin commented on Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz’s remarks, which he made during a Fox News segment. Waltz likened U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to an “illness” in his speech at the University of Minnesota Law School on Saturday. He accused President Trump of denying due process to those deported.
In response to a question from John Roberts about Waltz’s statements, McLaughlin emphasized that the rhetoric surrounding ICE agents increases the threat of assaults against them, noting a 400% rise in attacks fueled by such language. “They’re just trying to keep our cities safe,” she remarked.
President Trump has taken steps to address various immigration issues and bolster border security. Recently, he designated Mexican drug cartels and specific violent gangs, such as MS-13 and Tren DeLagua, as foreign terrorist organizations. This designation is intended to streamline the deportation process for gang members.
Additionally, McLaughlin commended U.S. Attorney Bilal Essaylie from California for his initiative to confront the state’s “sanctuary city” policies. He plans to pursue a warrant for the arrest of an illegal immigrant, highlighting that re-entering the country after deportation is a felony. McLaughlin praised Essaylie’s proactive approach, stating that it’s essential for enhancing community safety and addressing the challenges posed by sanctuary policies.
