DHS Reports Alarming Increase in Vehicle Attacks Against ICE Officers
On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed that ICE agents have seen an astonishing 3,200% rise in vehicle attacks over the past year. This follows a recent incident in Minneapolis, where an ICE agent shot and killed a driver during a protest.
The shooting appears to be part of a larger trend, as data indicates a series of attacks where vehicles have been used to target law enforcement, resulting in injuries to others. Over the same period, assaults against ICE officers have surged by over 1,300%, while threats against them have increased by more than 8,000%.
DHS attributes this spike in violence to what it calls “extreme rhetoric from sanctuary politicians,” referencing Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who called for ICE’s removal from the city after the recent shooting.
According to the DHS, since January 21, 2025, there have been 66 vehicle attacks on ICE officers, a dramatic rise from just two in the previous year. This alarming increase mirrors patterns seen during the early Trump administration, when assaults on ICE officials rose significantly.
DHS officials have expressed concerns that sanctuary policies are fostering an environment conducive to violence against law enforcement. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin pointed fingers at sanctuary leaders, claiming they “demonize our law enforcement officers” targeting criminal illegal immigrants in the U.S.
McLaughlin further emphasized that the rise in violence is a direct result of this rhetoric, urging that “dangerous criminals” are using vehicles as weapons against law enforcement. Nonetheless, DHS remains determined, assuring that their personnel will continue to arrest the most serious offenders and that anyone who attacks law enforcement will face severe legal repercussions.
In a string of incidents, illegal immigrants have been implicated in deliberate assaults on law enforcement vehicles. For instance, during a recent operation in Chicago, two individuals attempted to dangerously ram police officers with their vehicles.
As the tensions rise, the message from DHS is clear: they are committed to enforcing the law, regardless of the hurdles presented by increasing violence and threats. The resolve of ICE and federal law enforcement agencies remains unshaken, emphasizing that they will not back down in their duties.
