Secretary Noem Prevented from Entering Municipal Building for Bathroom Break
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reported that she and her team were blocked from entering an Illinois building for a bathroom break on Friday. She took to social media to recount the incident at the Broadview Municipal Building, stating, “My team and I were prevented from accessing the village of Broadview Municipal Building. We were stopped for a quick bathroom break. This is a public building. The village receives over $1 million in federal funding annually.”
Noem called the incident “absolutely shameful,” condemning Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and his associates for the response from law enforcement. Additionally, conservative commentator Benny Johnson shared a video showing a man shutting the door as Noem and her team approached, asserting, “No, you can’t.”
Noem reiterated the importance of her visit, emphasizing that her efforts focus on eliminating criminals, terrorists, and gang members from the streets.
Broadview officials disputed Noem’s version of events. Village spokesman David Ormsby noted that Noem arrived unannounced, looking for a meeting with Mayor Katrina Thompson, who was not present at the time. He added that the mayor had later visited the ICE center with the police chief, but was informed that Noem was unavailable.
Noem had been at the Broadview Ice Facility earlier that morning, a location that has been the center of anti-ICE protests for several weeks. Governor Pritzker had criticized Noem’s visit, stating that public accountability is necessary when visiting Illinois.
The episode unfolded amid ongoing resistance to federal immigration enforcement in various states and cities led by Democratic officials.
