DHS Secretary Noem criticizes the NFL for choosing Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl halftime show and promises that ICE will be present to uphold the law.

Federal Immigration Agents at Super Bowl Due to Bad Bunny Performance

In a recent announcement, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, confirmed that federal immigration agents will be present at the Super Bowl in February. This decision comes following the NFL’s choice to feature Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, who had previously canceled a U.S. tour as a form of protest against the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

On Thursday, Corey Lewandowski, an advisor to DHS, indicated that immigration agents would be in attendance after Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, was announced for the halftime show.

“There is no safe place in this country for individuals who are here illegally. This applies not just to the Super Bowl but everywhere,” Lewandowski stated.

Noem backed this statement in an interview with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, suggesting that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be “all and everywhere” at the event.

“We will enforce the law, and people should only attend the Super Bowl if they are Americans who respect this country and its laws,” Noem claimed.

Noem further expressed concerns about the NFL’s decision to showcase Bad Bunny on such a prominent platform. Johnson insinuated that this choice might signal a message to the Trump administration.

“They lose, we prevail. God will bless us, and we’ll emerge proud in the end. The NFL can’t rest easy because they seem uncertain of their beliefs,” she remarked.

Noem emphasized that ensuring safety at the Super Bowl is a primary responsibility of DHS.

A White House spokesman, Caroline Leavitt, mentioned that while there are currently “no concrete plans” for ICE to participate in the Super Bowl, the administration will continue to detain and deport illegal immigrants, especially if they have committed crimes.

The selection of Bad Bunny as a performer has stirred controversy, particularly after he expressed that his previous U.S. concert cancellations stemmed from opposition to Trump’s immigration policies.

In a recent discussion, Ocasio explained the concerns he had about his concerts and expressed his apprehension about performing in the U.S.

He also made an Instagram post from Puerto Rico in June, where he criticized local ICE agents, using harsh language to describe them.

Ocasio shared a video on social media last Sunday, featuring his hit song “DTMF” with his message about the forthcoming Super Bowl performance.
