The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued the Trump administration on Wednesday, claiming that immigrants detained in Cuba's Guantanamo Bay were not given sufficient access to lawyers — Homeland Security debated, He said the organization “cares more.” A criminal who is much more dangerous than an American.”
ComplaintThe infamous Guantanamo Bay Detention Center (Gitmo), filed in Washington, DC district court, has been “legal” in which the Trump administration attempts to “block access to lawyers” for immigrant detainees. “Black Hole” explained.
“For the first time in US history, the federal government has moved non-citizens who have been arrested and detained by the United States due to accusations of civil immigration at the Navy Bureau in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba,” the lawsuit reads. “And keeping them immobilized without access to lawyers, family or the outside world.”
The ACLU believes the federal government is “rumping” immigrant flights to Gitmo, and is currently expelled from the “means of communication” into the “outside world” “no means of communication.” It lives in over 50 people.
“The immigrants held in Guantanamo effectively disappeared into the black box and are unable to contact or communicate with their families or attorneys,” the complaint states. “In doing so, the US government has prevented immigrants from understanding their rights and accessing legal assistance to challenge the terms of transfer and detention or confinement in Guantanamo.”
A senior Homeland Security official told the Post that Gitmo immigrant detainees were able to contact their legal representatives by phone.
“We have a system where we can use the phone contact our lawyers,” the official said.
“If the American Civil Liberties Union cares more about aliens of extremely dangerous criminals, including murderers about American citizens and members of vicious gangs, they should change their names,” officials said. added.
The ACLU further states that the Trump administration has “informed the legal basis for the transfer of these individuals and information on the confinement of Guantanamo, their continued detention, the status of the individuals transferred, and the nature of the legal proceedings against them. They claim to have pending information on the terms of their confinement and the government's treatment and planning of these individuals.”
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the families of Gitmo Detaines Luis Alberto Castillo, Yoiker David Sequera and Tilso Ramon Gomez Lugo.
The Trump administration claims that the three men are tied to Tren de Algua, a ruthless Venezuelan prison gangster.
The ACLU is seeking an order that forces the Trump administration to provide lawyers with in-person access to clients as quickly as possible, in the meantime asking for immediate video and phone access.
The lawsuit argues that the lack of face-to-face access to lawyers is a violation of the legal rights of immigrants and a violation of the legal entity's first amendment rights.
