DHS supports ICE’s decision to hold a Georgia college student for breaking traffic laws.

Democrats Shift the Deportation Debate to a “Legitimate Process”

Chad Pargram, a senior congressional correspondent, discussed on “American Newsroom” how Democrats are advocating for Salvador Kilmer Abrego Garcia, transforming the debate on illegal immigration into one of legitimacy.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) supports the detention of University of Georgia students who are in the U.S. illegally after their arrests for traffic violations.

Ximena Arias-Cristobal, a 19-year-old from Mexico, was arrested in Dalton, Georgia, on May 5th. According to an arrest report obtained by WTVC in Chattanooga, Arias-Cristobal was pulled over for not having a driver’s license, though she does possess an international license issued by her mother. Following her arrest, she was taken to the Stewart Detention Center and then to Whitfield County Jail.

DHS Highlights Financial Options for Illegal Immigrants

DHS claims that Arias-Cristobal has admitted to her illegal status in the U.S. and lacks any pending citizenship applications. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover bond funds; immigration lawyers noted that she came to the U.S. in 2010 when she was just four years old, and she is ineligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protection.

Her father, Jose Francisco Arias Toval, is also at the same detention facility after being detained during a traffic stop for speeding and driving without a license. DHS stated that he acknowledged his illegal status as well. They emphasized that the family could return to Mexico together and mentioned that Toval had ample opportunities to pursue legal citizenship but chose not to.

“She has babysat my children for years. We really adore her. Simena is my best friend and my child’s favorite babysitter,” said Hannah Jones in her GoFundMe description.

DHS pointed out that any illegal immigrants interested in legally returning to the U.S. have a chance to do so via the Customs and Border Protection Home App, reiterating their focus on adherence to the law.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Dalton Police and ICE for their comments.
