Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is preparing to deport a woman from Finland, described as a “criminal illegal alien,” after an incident in Florida where she reportedly threw coffee at a mother, her baby, and their dog during an argument.
Nina Kristina Jaaskelainen, who has been living in the U.S. without legal status since 1999, was taken into custody following a domestic violence arrest in New Smyrna Beach earlier this month.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the 54-year-old is facing allegations of throwing coffee after becoming angry over the dog being walked off-leash on her property.
The police report mentions that the Dalmatian was indeed off-leash and “following closely” to its owner and child. It seems that the conflict started when Jaaskelainen first aimed her coffee at the dog, escalating to her throwing another cup at the mother and her 11-month-old child.
“It got on my clothes and all over him,” victim Kelly Brisell stated, adding that the coffee splashed across the baby’s face, but was, thankfully, not hot.
When authorities came to the scene, they observed the trio being dried off with coffee. Jaaskelainen admitted to pouring coffee on the dog but denied the intent to hit the mother and child.
She defended her behavior by claiming that the loose dog had upset her own dog, insisting they were all on her property at the time.
Jaaskelainen entered the U.S. in April 1999 on a tourist visa, which expired in July of that same year. Instead of leaving as required, she has remained in the country illegally for 26 years.
The Department of Homeland Security indicated that measures are being put in place to ensure Jaaskelainen won’t re-enter the U.S. “For more than two decades, she’s been in our country unauthorized, disregarding the law,” said Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security. “Now we see her assaulting a mother, a baby, and a pet.”
McLaughlin further noted that Jaaskelainen is currently facing charges for assault and domestic violence, which prompted her arrest by ICE to prevent her from harming any more American families.
“President Trump and Secretary Noem are committed to ensuring that illegal aliens do not endanger the American populace,” she concluded.
