DHS: The Trump administration has removed 2 million undocumented immigrants — ‘We aim to increase those numbers’

Update on Deportation Efforts in the U.S.

As of recently, nearly 2 million undocumented immigrants have been deported since the beginning of President Trump’s second term, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

This figure reflects data accumulated under the Biden administration, alongside a notable boost in funding for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), thanks to legislation passed by Trump in July.

“We’re aiming for around 2 million deportations over the past 240 days, which includes approximately 1.6 million who self-deported,” an official mentioned.

“The presence of undocumented individuals often poses risks to public safety, while also being a financial burden. Not to mention, there are around 400,000 deportations occurring,” a spokesperson commented.

Recently, ICE has been enhancing its operations in sanctuary cities. This has led to friction with some Democratic officials, including Boston’s mayor.

The Department of Justice has initiated legal action against Mayor Michelle Wu, asserting that her city’s sanctuary policy obstructs federal immigration enforcement.

“Wu’s sanctuary policy is not just protecting criminals; it jeopardizes law-abiding citizens too,” a statement noted, emphasizing that Boston’s upcoming immigration actions aim to target serious offenders.

Wu countered the lawsuit, stating the Trump administration is “attacking cities to divert attention from their shortcomings.”

President Trump has suggested that there are around 20 million undocumented individuals in the U.S. Meanwhile, officials like McLaughlin remain optimistic about reaching the deportation goals set by Trump before the end of his term, which could lead to further increases in ICE funding.

“We’ve seen 2 million undocumented individuals leave the U.S. in under 250 days,” a tweet from Tricia McLaughlin highlighted, thanking Trump and DHS law enforcement for their efforts.
