DHS transfers 5 'criminal illegal immigrants' to Eswatini in Southern Africa: 'Their home countries would not accept them'

Deportations Resume Under DHS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reinstated a policy to deport undocumented immigrants to poorer nations that are possibly less hospitable. This latest action saw five individuals deported, hailing from Vietnam, Jamaica, Laos, Cuba, and Yemen.

Eswatini, classified by the World Bank as a low-middle-income country, faces serious economic challenges and significant poverty.

This deportation action comes after the Supreme Court lifted previous restrictions that had limited the federal government’s capacity to send undocumented immigrants to “unrelated” countries.

DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin commented on the decision, noting that five undocumented immigrants had been deemed “uniquely barbaric” for refusing to return to their countries.

McLaughlin pointed out that these individuals had convictions for serious crimes, ranging from child rape to murder.

“These individuals have abandoned their American communities and are now facing the consequences. Thanks to [President Donald Trump] and [DHS Secretary Kristi Noem], they are removed from the soil of America,” she stated.

There was some ambiguity about whether one of the deportees had been detained from a recent immigration raid or if they were transferred after serving time in prison.

According to the Eswatini government, the deported individuals are now being kept in isolated units within local correctional facilities designed for such offenders.

“Five inmates are currently safely housed in specialized correctional units where similar offenders are kept secure. We are confident that they will not pose a threat to our country or its people,” the government conveyed.

They also mentioned that one particular individual would be treated as “in transit” and will ultimately be sent back to their home nation.

This collaborative effort is being conducted alongside US authorities and the United Nations Immigration Agency.

Recently, the US has also deported a total of eight undocumented immigrants from countries including Myanmar, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, and Mexico to South Sudan.
