Incident Involving ICE Agent in Franklin Park
Incident Involving ICE Agent in Franklin Park
On Friday morning, an ICE agent was fatally shot while trying to apprehend an illegal alien in Franklin Park, Illinois. Authorities reported that the individual, named Silver Vilgas Gonzalez, attempted to drive his vehicle towards the agent, prompting the agents to open fire.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the agent was closing in on Gonzalez when he resisted arrest. An ICE spokesperson stated that this shooting was part of “targeted law enforcement activities.”
“During the vehicle stop, the suspect resisted, attempting to drive the vehicle towards the arrest team and attacking officers,” the agency noted.
The situation escalated when Gonzalez crashed his vehicle into a truck. The driver of the truck later shared a video on social media, showing the wrecked Subaru trapped beneath the truck, with two officers attending to the situation nearby.
Both individuals involved were taken to a local hospital, where Gonzalez later succumbed to his injuries. ICE officials emphasized that the agent involved was dragged by the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
“We pray for the swift recovery of our officers. He acted according to his training and applied appropriate force to protect the public and himself,” said Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin. “Videos on social media often encourage illegal aliens to resist law enforcement, which endangers public safety and our officers.”
As for the agent, his condition has been stated as stable.
Gonzalez had a prior record for reckless driving and was noted by DHS to have entered the U.S. illegally at an unspecified time.
Surveillance footage from a nearby nail salon captured the moments before the shooting. It shows an ICE officer approaching Gonzalez’s Jeep with flashing lights, while another officer attempted to open the car door. The video indicates that Gonzalez then reversed the vehicle, dragging one officer in the process.
Another surveillance camera from a nearby business recorded Gonzalez’s Subaru moving into traffic before two loud sounds, resembling gunfire, were heard.
Jose Pedro de Bras, who recorded a video shortly after, commented, “I thought this was just a regular car accident. There was a heavy police presence, and even military officials were around.”
In a contrasting view, Gonzalez’s girlfriend, Blanca Mora, expressed her belief that ICE is not being truthful about the incident, hoping for the reality of the situation to emerge.
The FBI has confirmed their involvement and is assisting in the ongoing investigation into the incident.
“The FBI is aware of what happened in Franklin Park and is providing support to local law enforcement,” stated a representative from the Chicago Field Office. “Currently, there is no threat to public safety.”
Governor JB Pritzker acknowledged the serious situation that unfolded, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.
