New Orleans Set for Immigration Operation

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is gearing up to deploy 250 Border Patrol agents to New Orleans as part of a two-month immigration enforcement initiative called “Operation Swamp,” according to documents acquired by The Associated Press and several insiders. This operation is set to kick off on December 1 and aims to apprehend around 5,000 individuals across southeastern Louisiana and Mississippi. It’s the latest move in a series of similar crackdowns by the DHS targeting illegal immigration in major cities, notably Chicago and Los Angeles.

Recent comments from Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, a Republican ally of former President Donald Trump, highlighted the state’s collaboration with federal agencies on matters of immigration and crime. He expressed, during a segment on “American Report”, that Louisiana is actively engaged with federal partners to address these issues.

Landry stated, “New Orleans has seen its share of illegal activities.” He cited ongoing concerns from the police chief of Kenner, who has consistently dealt with violence linked to illegal aliens in his community. He made it clear: “People in Louisiana want their neighborhoods to be secure. Whether it’s a violent foreign national or a local citizen, if you break the law, you’ll face consequences.”

The Kenner Police Chief, Keith Conley, also noted the collaboration with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Louisiana State Police, referring to an operation where federal agents detained about 13 to 15 people recently. Conley mentioned, “We’ve received several complaints about illegal activities on the lakefront. Despite our patrols, it wasn’t sufficient.” He emphasized that community harassment and crime had risen to an intolerable level.

U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, known for overseeing similar operations during the Trump era, has reportedly been designated to lead this upcoming initiative. Documentation reveals plans for coordinated efforts that will extend through neighborhoods from New Orleans to multiple surrounding parishes and even into southeast Mississippi.

In preparation for “Operation Swamp,” agents have secured various staging areas. Reports mention that part of the FBI’s New Orleans field office will serve as a command center, while the naval base is set to be used for storing vehicles and equipment, including “less-lethal” munitions like tear gas. Furthermore, DHS has requested the use of the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base for approximately 90 days starting this weekend.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the DHS for additional comments on this operation.
