Mets Make Roster Changes Ahead of Series
The New York Mets caught some attention on Monday with their latest roster adjustments as they gear up for a series against their National League East rivals.
In their recent moves, the Mets promoted outfielder Travis Jankowski to the major league roster. Meanwhile, pitcher Tyler Zuver and infielder Lusagel Acuña have been sent down to Triple-A, and outfielder Jose Siri has been placed on the 60-day injured list. However, the most notable move was the signing of Dickey Lovelady to a major league contract.
Lovelady made his debut with the team during a game against the Braves, and fans took to social media to express their reactions. Interestingly, he prefers to be called Dickey, which has become a talking point among fans and teammates.
At 29 years old, Lovelady was drafted in the 10th round by the Kansas City Royals in 2016 out of Kennesaw State. He made his major league debut in 2019, although he did not play in the majors during 2022. He did have some action with the Oakland Athletics earlier this season.
Before joining the Mets, Lovelady pitched for the Chicago Cubs and the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024, even appearing twice for the Toronto Blue Jays this season. In his career, he has participated in 110 games, holding a 5.26 ERA and counting 93 strikeouts.
As of Monday night, the Mets held a record of 46-32, positioning them just a game behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the lead in the NL East, while the Braves were trailing by 11 games.
This season has not been without its challenges for New York, as they’ve been navigating through various arm injuries. Starters Tyler Megill and Kodai Senga have both dealt with injuries recently, along with reliever Max Kranick.
