Diddy Wins Early Appeal in Federal Sex Crimes Case

Sean “Diddy” Combs has achieved a significant development in his federal sex crimes case. His request for an early appeal was approved on Monday, which sets the stage for oral arguments possibly scheduled for April 2026. This news could be crucial for the “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper, as some legal experts suggest he might seek a pardon from President Donald Trump.

Neama Rahmani, the founder of West Coast Trial Lawyers, commented on this development, calling it a “procedural victory for Didi.” He noted that the government did not contest the appeal, which made the process smoother. According to him, the Court of Appeals seems to agree that pursuing the appeal through the usual lengthy process could be detrimental to Diddy’s case in terms of sentencing. Typically, after an appeal is resolved, Diddy might serve the remainder of his sentence in a specialized program.

Rahmani further stated that the strong argument on appeal centers around the notion that the judge should not have considered certain conduct for which Diddy was acquitted. However, he cautioned that it might be harder for Diddy to argue for a complete vacating of his conviction based on his lack of participation in the sex act or the claim that it was pornographic. Still, even if this appeal turns out to be just a procedural victory, it remains an important first step for Diddy as he continues his efforts to seek a commutation from President Trump.

Diddy is currently serving his sentence in a federal correctional facility—Fort Dix—after being convicted in July on two counts related to transportation for prostitution. He received a sentence of 50 months, followed by five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, his scheduled release date is May 8, 2028.

R. Kelly’s attorney, Nicole Blank Becker, indicated that Donald Trump has previously granted pardons to various celebrities, and a pardon for Diddy is “certainly not out of the question.” She emphasized that Diddy must demonstrate genuine remorse, stating, “They’re not trying to pardon people who are just going to tear apart the federal government and things like that.”

In earlier comments, Trump acknowledged that Diddy had requested a pardon. He referred to him as “Puff Daddy” during a recent press briefing, mentioning that many people have approached him for such requests.

Trump also added he would consider the particulars of Diddy’s situation, saying, “If I think someone is being abused, it doesn’t matter whether they like me or not.” In the context of Diddy’s lengthy trial—where jurors heard from numerous witnesses—the verdict came down on July 2nd. Diddy was acquitted of the more severe charges, including sex trafficking and extortion. Following his sentencing, he offered apologies in court to his ex-girlfriends.

This recent advancement in Diddy’s legal battle serves as a “procedural lifeline” according to Becker, who noted how unusual it is to expedite an appeal. The stakes are high, and while there is a pathway to victory, changes in circumstances could happen that might complicate his case further.
