Diddy trial: Notable prosecutors feature the daughter of James Comey

Sean “Diddy” Combs could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of a sex crime, as his trial began on May 5th and is expected to last about eight weeks.

The prosecution team, which is notably comprised of eight women lawyers, has Emily Ann Johnson, Madison Redick Smither, Mary Christine Slavik, Meredith Foster, and Mitzi Steiner as the lead attorneys. Also on the team is Moren Ryan Comey, the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, along with Matthew Rafi Shahavian and Olga Zveric. Comey’s father was dismissed by President Trump during his initial term concerning issues around Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Moren joined the prosecution three months after Diddy was charged with multiple serious offenses, including conspiracy and sex trafficking, among others.

In the past, Comey served as a leading prosecutor in the case against Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted of several counts related to the sexual exploitation of minors and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The prosecution has expressed a determined stance, with U.S. Attorney Damien Williams emphasizing the message that the law applies to everyone. This follows Maxwell’s failed appeal of her convictions, which was denied by the federal court.
Maxwell’s legal team has since engaged the U.S. Supreme Court for another appeal attempt.

In a related case, prior to Maxwell’s conviction, Comey had been a significant prosecutor in an ongoing lawsuit against Jeffrey Epstein, who died while awaiting trial.

Comey graduated from Harvard Law School in 2013 and became part of the U.S. Law Office in 2015.
