Diondre Overton, a former wide receiver who won two national championships with the Clemson Tigers, has passed away, the university announced Saturday. He was 26 years old.
Overton played all four seasons with the Tigers from 2016-2019. He was with the Tigers when they won national championships in 2016 and 2018. He recorded 777 yards receiving and seven touchdowns on 52 catches.

“The Clemson University football organization and the Clemson family are mourning the loss of Clemson graduate Diondre Overton,” Clemson said in a post on X. “Our hearts are with his family and friends.”
No other details about Overton's death have been released. A university official told The Associated Press that the university learned of Overton's death and had reached out to authorities in Greensboro, North Carolina, for confirmation.
Tigers coach Dabo Swinney spoke about Overton's death after his team's 66-20 win over Appalachian State on Saturday night.

“It took my breath away this morning,” Swinney said. “He really has one of the kindest hearts of all the kids that have come through here. It's heartbreaking.”
Overton never got a chance to play in the NFL regular season, having spent the past two seasons in the USFL and United Football League, spending last year with the Memphis Showboats.

“The United Football League and the Memphis Showboats are heartbroken and mournful about the tragic passing of Diondre Overton,” the UFL said in a statement. “Our hearts and prayers go out to Diondre's family, friends and teammates, and we offer our deepest condolences during this difficult time.”
