House Republicans Intensify Health Investigation

House Republicans are increasing their scrutiny of health issues by requesting interviews with five prominent White House officials, including former Chief of Staff Ron Crane and senior adviser Anita Dunn.

According to Wednesday’s announcement from James Comer, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, these officials are now part of the investigation into matters related to the Biden administration.

Comer stated, “Americans deserve full transparency, and the House Oversight Committee is conducting a thorough investigation to provide answers and accountability. President Biden’s alleged cover-up regarding his mental decline is one of the largest scandals in our nation’s history.”

In addition to Klain and Dunn, Comer has also asked for testimony from former senior advisor Mike Donilon, Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed, and Lead Counselor Steve Richetty.

Each letter from Comer emphasizes, “The committee will request your testimony to evaluate accounts of former President Biden’s decline.” He set a deadline for aides to agree to provide testimony by July 11.

He also indicated that if these staff members fail to cooperate, he would resort to issuing subpoenas to ensure their presence.

All five officials have longstanding ties with Biden; Donilon has advised him since 1981, playing key roles during Biden’s time as vice president and in two presidential campaigns. Reed was also his Chief of Staff during that era. Richetty served in similar capacities, while Dunn had approached Biden in 2015 amid his presidential campaign.

Crane had remarked earlier that during presidential debate preparations, Biden seemed unclear on certain points, although he later softened those comments, suggesting Biden’s lapses were situational rather than indicative of a lack of capability.

Comer has previously sent letters to Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, along with four senior aides—Neela Tanden, Anthony Bernal, Annie Tomasini, and Ashley Williams—requesting interviews as part of this ongoing investigation.

Tanden, the head of a progressive think tank, has worked closely with Biden since the Obama era. Bernal and Tomasini, described as loyal allies, are noted in a recent book outlining their strong ties to Biden.

Meanwhile, Williams also held a significant role during the Obama administration, working closely with Dr. Jill Biden.

Comer’s efforts to subpoena Tomasini, Bernal, and Williams originated last year after the debates that summer. The Senate Judiciary Committee is looking into Biden’s purported cover-up of cognitive decline, with discussions expected at an upcoming hearing.

A representative for Republican Senator Eric Schmidt from Missouri indicated that they plan to finalize their list of witnesses shortly.
