New U.S. Mint Coins Celebrate 250th Anniversary

The U.S. Mint has introduced a fresh design for coins to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. These coins are set to be released next year, forming part of the semi-quincentenary circulating coin program.

The series includes new designs on both sides of the dime, along with five different quarter designs and a twenty-five cent piece. Each coin will feature the years 1776 and 2026, honoring this significant milestone.

“The artwork on these historic coins narrates America’s journey towards a ‘more perfect union’ and highlights the core ideals of freedom,” said Mint Deputy Director Christy McNally in a statement. “Our goal is to connect Americans through these coins, giving everyone a chance to hold a piece of our nation’s rich history.”

This temporary redesign was authorized during President Trump’s first term, as part of the Circulating Collected Coin Redesign Act of 2020.

Coins are minted in four locations across the United States, primarily in Philadelphia and Denver, with additional production in San Francisco and West Point, New York.

Earlier this year, a move was made to eliminate the penny, which gained bipartisan approval. Colorado Governor Jared Polis remarked that the cost of producing a penny is no longer justifiable.

Mint officials assure that the commemorative coins for next year will not impose any burden on taxpayers.
