World Cup Takes a Flavorful Turn at MetLife Stadium

As the World Cup brings excitement to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the venue is introducing a unique twist to the classic sports food staple—hot dogs.

One highlight of the menu is the Ripper Hot Dog, a dish that pays homage to New Jersey’s local favorite, originally crafted at Clifton’s famous Rat’s Hut.

These Ripper hot dogs are notably fried and “ripped,” setting them apart from the traditional version. What’s new this time around? Well, MetLife’s iteration includes a vibrant mix of pineapple salsa, ketchup mayonnaise, diced pineapple, and crunchy potato sticks.

To complement this, they’ll also serve homemade kettle chips.

“We just want to offer fans something they can enjoy,” noted Delaware North executive chef Michael Butler during a media preview of the stadium. He added, “Honestly, I come to these events more for the food than the games.”

This hot dog is just part of a broader initiative for the World Cup, where each stadium will showcase signature dishes inspired by the local culture and flavors.

Attendees can look forward to trying the Ripper hot dog during the tournament, although the price for this signature item hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Additionally, other menu offerings include lobster rolls, one featuring a street corn twist with cilantro, lime, and tagine, plus a Mexican shrimp cocktail that is served with freshly shucked oysters.

The World Cup action kicks off at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, starting with a match between Morocco and Brazil, marking the beginning of eight exciting games at this location.
