As classic shows get remade into woke looks, America’s once-favorite streaming service can’t seem to stop shooting itself in the foot.
Batman is one of several characters who recently fell out of favor with the introduction of a gender-swapped Penguin in Amazon Prime’s new animated series about the famous superhero, a move that creators reportedly said was inspired by drag queens and a string of musicals.
Ryan Kinnell, a YouTube host of the show RK Outpost and a U.S. Navy veteran, is among those frustrated.
“Unfortunately, they decided to put identity politics first,” he told “Blaze News Tonight’s” Jill Savage and Matthew Peterson. “They said, ‘It’s inspired by drag queens.’ It’s a grotesque, fat, ugly penguin, but a woman.”
“I’m not sure what they thought would happen, but they’ve certainly been subject to a lot of criticism,” he added, pointing out that Harley Quinn, the series’ other female villain, is no longer a white woman but a race-swapped lesbian.
“This just comes down to reaching into something beloved and plundering and corrupting it for the sake of modern identity politics,” he says.
Disney has come under fire recently for overreaching in awareness efforts, including its panned live-action remake of “Snow White” and hiring drag queens to style children’s hair at its theme parks.
“There are still men dressed as women cutting the hair of little girls and boys in the park,” Peterson told Savage and Kinnell.
“Disney has relied heavily on its family-friendly side for a long time,” Kinnell said, “but unfortunately in recent years, it’s hard to say that Disney is a company that anyone with a family, anyone with kids, would describe as family-friendly.”
