Disney makes U-turn on racially-tied warnings for classic films after Trump’s DEI crackdown

The report says Disney is reportedly discarding content warnings for animated classics with racially recharged storylines such as “Dumbo” and “Peter Pan.”

The Entertainment Giant moves the disclaimer that will be flashed on its streaming platform at the start of the film into the “Details” section, trimming the language significantly. Source told Axios.

According to Axios, the abbreviated advisory reads “This program is presented as originally written and may contain negative stereotypes or negative depictions.”

Previous autoplay messages warned viewers that the film “contains negative portrayals and abuses of people and culture.”

Disney did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The company, which faced a controversy in the fight against Florida over the “gay” bill, has been in its diversity program since Trump signed an executive order banning DEI initiatives across the federal level, urging private companies to withdraw. I've rewind some of the Their policy.

In November 2019, the company introduced labels before some of the films of the 1940s and 1950s.

“The program is presented as originally written,” the warning states. “It may contain outdated cultural portrayals.”

In October 2020, Disney revised its warning to a longer version as Disney strengthened its DEI policy in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder and black lives protests.

“The program includes negative portrayals and abuses of people or culture. These stereotypes were wrong at the time and are wrong now. Rather than removing this content, they are harmful. We want to acknowledge the impact, learn from it, stimulate conversations, and create a more inclusive future together,” the 2020 warning states.

“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspiration and passionate themes that reflect the rich diversity of human experiences around the world,” the warning continued.

Content advisories are tied to several Disney classic films, including The Jungle Book, Lady and the Trump, and Aristocats.
