This weekend’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, featured a ton of Disney Parks announcements.
In addition to the new rides, both U.S. Disney resorts will feature new areas, shows, parades and lounges.
Disney is also going out of its way to let fans know that this isn’t just theoretical, but that it’s going to happen over the next five years.
“Everything I’m about to share with you about is currently in development,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experience. According to Disney Parks Blog. “The plans are in place, the dirt is being moved, and I want to be very clear: we are implementing everything you’ve heard here tonight.”
The East Coast seems to be seeing the biggest changes, followed by the West Coast.
Disney World
Villains Land at Magic Kingdom: This space has two main attractions: dining and shopping.
“This land will be home to the bad guys you know and hate, so living happily ever after may feel like a distant dream,” D’Amaro said at the D23 event.
Cars attraction at Magic Kingdom: According to the Disney Parks Blog, one of the new attractions in Frontierland will be a “thrilling rally race through the mountains.” The other will be geared towards younger racers and will be fun for the whole family.
New Lounge at Magic Kingdom, Epcot: In 2025, a Pirates of the Caribbean themed tavern will open at the Magic Kingdom.
At Epcot, a new Spaceship Earth-inspired lounge will be a “Zen space for families to gather and enjoy snacks.” [that] Disney said it will be “covered in rich textures and warm metallic tones.”
Coming next summer, Guests will be able to watch Magic Kingdom’s new nighttime parade, “Disney Starlight,” which pays homage to the much-loved previous “Main Street Electrical Parade” and uses modern technology to bring characters from “Peter Pan,” “Encanto,” “Frozen” and more to life.
Tropical America at Animal Kingdom: This will include an Indiana Jones attraction “unlike any other Indiana Jones experience around the world,” Disney said.
The store also features an “Encanto” themed ride attraction featuring the Madrigal family from the film.
Re-imagined Test Track at Epcot: The Test Track presented by Chevrolet, which will return next year, “celebrates the innovation of today while highlighting the past, present and future,” Disney said.
Hollywood Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” Land: Nearly 23 years after the film was released, fans of James P. Sullivan (aka Sully) and Mike Wazowski will soon be able to step through a vault of doors and “experience the first-ever suspended coaster at a Disney Park,” Disney has announced.
Disneyland/Disney’s California Adventure
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Disneyland’s replacement for Splash Mountain will open on November 15, 2024, and Critter Country will be renamed Bayou Country.
First-ever “Coco” ride: The attraction, coming to California Adventure, will be packed with characters and music as passengers “embark on a journey with Miguel into the Land of the Dead,” Disney said.
Walt Disney Imagineering will draw inspiration for the attraction from “beloved classics” such as the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Avengers Campus: will double in size with the addition of two new attractions, Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.
AVATAR: “This thrilling new journey recreates all the action, excitement and amazement of Avatar, transporting guests to the vast ocean of Pandora,” said Ari Rubenstein, executive global managing creative development, Walt Disney Imagineering, during D23’s Horizons: The Disney Experience Showcase.
