More layoffs have collided with the Disney Grooming Syndicate. This represents six percent of staff in two major sectors out of approximately 200 jobs.
“Around 200 employees have been left out at Disney's ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Network Unit. I said Wall Street Journal. “As consumers dump cable packages and advertisers flee for streaming services and digital platforms, valuations and revenues are declining across many cable channels.”
The most interesting nugget is the news that ABC is shutting down the once popular 538. The site, created by Nate Silver, is touted as a data-driven science that predicts election outcomes, along with Oscars and sporting events.
Under Silver, the site did pretty well…until Donald Trump arrived in 2016. Suddenly, “data-driven” began to look like a “wishcast,” and the site became a joke. Silver left his creation in 2023, and 538 blew away the 2024 presidential election and is no longer there. so sad. buh-bye.
Giving up on the 538 is a big deal. The whole idea behind the site wasn't to reflect what public opinion said in the polls, but to shape public opinion, especially in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Rasmussen is one of the most accurate pollers, for 20 years. Still, 538 Rejected Their poll. That's all I talked about the reliability of the site.
What the 538 closure tells me is that it was no longer effective propaganda. Over time, after so many mistakes, people stopped buying what ABC News is selling: Hey, this is an objective number calculation! This is science! No, really. Where will everyone go?
Anyone who wants an accurate poll can go RealClearPolitics (RCP). The RCP does not tweak numbers that try to lower morale Republicans. RCP reports numbers, aggregates the averages, and gets as accurate as everyone can.
Why call the 538 closure a big deal? We beat 538, so New Media's commitment to accuracy has stopped propaganda outlets again and again, and Disney Grooming Syndicate abandons the Godfather of data-driven polling sites. And it wasn't just RCP. Online people of all kinds did a better job analyzing the vote, but 538 turned themselves into a punchline. One of the online sites that humiliated me in 2024 was Nate Silver's new site.
Reducing entertainment at Disney is truly a Wall Street Journal Description: Direct results for people cancelling cable packages and moving to streaming. This inevitability is something I have predicted for 15 years. Cable TV money was a pimple for mega entertainment companies like Disney. That's not the case with streaming services. As people continue to switch to streaming, their cable TV money gets drained more and more.
Netflix is making a ton of money. Other streaming services are to lose tons or squeal small profits.
Everything is changing for the better. The less power these monsters are, the safer we are.
