Disneyland commemorates Memorial Day by welcoming 100 Navy sailors and Marines.

Disneyland Hosts 100 US Navy Sailors and Marines

In a special celebration ahead of Memorial Day weekend, Disneyland transformed into an extra patriotic space, welcoming 100 US Navy sailors and Marines. This surprise event took place during Fleet Week at the port of Los Angeles.

The service members got to enjoy attractions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Mickey’s Toontown. They also participated in a flag retreat ceremony alongside the Disneyland band, Dapper Dans, honoring Richard W. Meyer, the deputy commander of the US Third Fleet.

Meyer reflected on the day, saying, “How often do you get a chance to engage in something as thrilling as Disneyland? It’s such a unique opportunity to share it with the community, showcasing the sailors and Marines. Today really felt special.”

It’s interesting to note that the Walt Disney Company has a deep-rooted connection with the military. Both Walt Disney and his brother Roy served during World War I, with Walt working as an ambulance driver for the Red Cross and Roy serving in the Navy.

Ariel Elias, a Marine Corps veteran who currently works at Disneyland, praised the company’s support for veterans. “Disney has a unique approach to honoring those who serve. It’s woven into the fabric of Disneyland Resort, from flag ceremonies to Veterans Day celebrations.”

Beyond this wonderful event, Disneyland has also set up initiatives aimed at supporting veterans, like the Heroes Work Here program, which helps in hiring and training veterans and military spouses. Since 2012, the company has contributed over $20 million to veteran support organizations.
